The Wilfredson's Approach to
Financial Planning
Running a business while managing family finances can make even successful households feel fragmented. I work with owner-managed business families who want clarity, structure, and confidence across the full picture.
Together, we build a practical plan that connects your business, tax position, protection needs, family goals, and long-term future. The result is a more coordinated approach that helps you make better decisions, reduce avoidable stress, and move forward with purpose.

1
Engage
Most people come to us with a problem to be solved. That might be to do with a pension or an investment, or it might be around uncertainty with money or life decisions. Contacting an adviser is the first step.
2
Discover
We’ll ask you all about yourself, your family, and your work, to understand what is most important to you. You’ll also find out how we work, and whether you’d like to work with us. Up to this point is at our expense.

3
Research
We’ll gather information about your existing policies, income, expenditure and put these in perspective with your goals. We’ll analyse what’s working well, and highlight opportunities for improvement.
4
Present
We’ll host a meeting where we present our ideas to you, fine-tune your bespoke financial plan, and agree on the actions to take going forward. You’ll receive a suitability report containing the recommendations.

5
Implement
With your agreement, we’ll take responsibility for your affairs and implement our recommendations, including all paperwork, speaking with providers, and we'll confirm when the work is completed.
6
Review
It’s essential to review your situation each year to make sure that you’re on track and make amendments as life develops and your circumstances change. This is time dedicated to you and your questions.
For more about the process, read here.

7
Educate
The Wilfredson’s difference. We believe financial education is crucial, so we educate you on everything you need to know. The fees you pay also allow us to deliver this education to young people in need.
Queries?

How often will we actually speak?
Formally once a year, at a review and planning meeting. Informally, whenever you need to, with no cap on calls and no charge for them. The annual planning meeting covers what has changed and whether the plan needs adjusting. The calls in between usually matter more, because they tend to follow something real, whether that's a change in circumstances, a query about something financial, or just to catch up!

Who will I be dealing with day to day?
Just Dan. Wilfredson's is a one-adviser firm, so the person you meet at the first conversation is the person who writes your plan, runs your annual review and answers the phone. The drawback is that I am one person and sometimes away, but you'll have my personal contact details for anything urgent. The advantage is that you never explain your situation twice. It is also why the client list is capped.

What happens if my circumstances change between reviews?
Call or email, rather than waiting for the review. A financial plan rests on assumptions about your life, so selling the business, redundancy, an inheritance, a diagnosis or a divorce all change what it should be doing, and several carry deadlines. There is no extra charge for this. It is just some of what the ongoing fee covers.
A more connected plan for your family and business
When you run a business and manage family finances, decisions rarely sit in isolation. Retirement, succession, children’s futures, tax and later-life care can all affect one another.
At Wilfredson's financial planning starts with understanding what matters most to your family, then building a practical plan around the life and business you want. The process is collaborative: we explore your goals, put the figures in place and refine the plan together.
1. Discovery
We start with a conversation about you, your family and your business. I’ll ask questions and explore what’s important; not just what’s happening financially today, but what you want life to look like in the years ahead.
That might include planning for retirement or business succession, supporting your children’s education and growth, preparing for later-life care or supporting your elderly parents, or thinking about tax and estate planning. Together, we’ll turn those priorities into clear goals that are SMART.
The initial conversations are at our expense, so you can get to know how I work and decide whether you’d like to continue.
2. Planning
Once we understand your priorities, we map them out and begin to put figures and savings plans around them. We’ll look at your current financial position alongside the goals you’ve identified, then explore what may help you move towards them.
This is a collaborative process. We can test ideas, adjust the figures and refine the plan together until you’re comfortable with the direction. You’ll have the opportunity to consider the recommendations before deciding whether you’d like to proceed. If you’re not happy with the advice, you’re free to walk away.
3. Products & services
When you’re ready to act, I can advise on a range of financial planning needs for you, your family and your business, including:
-
Pensions: pension consolidation and funding
-
Investments: investment strategy and investing for children
-

-
Personal and business protection: life cover, income protection, family income benefit, key person insurance and cross-option agreements
-

Recommendations are tailored to your circumstances and the goals we’ve agreed together. If you choose to go ahead, I can help put the agreed recommendations into action.
